Programme

Day 1: Thursday

Arrival in Cracow, the European City of Culture 2000, Poland’s historical capital. Overnight in Cracow.

Day 2: Good Friday

Full-day excursion to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and participation in the Passion Plays with the procession. The church, monastery and the pilgrimage park of Bernardine complex is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The baroque church from the 17th century contains the famous miraculous picture of Our Lady of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. The so-called Calvary paths is lined with shrines, chapels, and small churches are picturesquely set up on hills and in the stream valley. The sanctuary is visited by one million pilgrims a year. Overnight in Cracow.

Day 3: Holy Saturday

Today’s visit leads you to Częstochowa, Poland’s spiritual capital and the main centre of religious worship, which is visited every year by millions of pilgrims from all over the world. In the Pauline monastery on Jasna Góra, the Mountain of Light, you can admire the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary with the Christ child known as the Black Madonna. You will also have an opportunity to get acquainted with a beloved and enduring Polish tradition – Świeconka, colorful baskets containing a sampling of Easter foods are brought to church to be blessed on Holy Saturday. Overnight in Cracow.

Day 4: Easter Sunday

City sightseeing tour of Cracow. The Old Town within the area of the Planty has been included on the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list. You will see Europe’s largest medieval Market Square, the Cloth Halls, St Mary’s Church with its gothic altarpiece carved in limewood as well as the Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill. The afternoon is free for individual visits. In the evening, dinner with traditional Polish Ester foods in one of the Old Town restaurants. Overnight in Cracow.

Day 5: Easter Monday

Breakfast and departure.
